Management and Family Studies: What Can I Do With My Degree?

lauren-header-new

I am currently in my third year of a double major in Management and Organizational Behaviour and Family Studies. This is an uncommon and slightly odd pairing, but it is a module I find interesting and enjoy. It took me awhile to find something that would motivate me. When I first came to Brescia I was in the Foods and Nutrition program, however, I found that it was not the best fit for me. Next, I switched into a major in Family Studies, which I truly enjoy, but I found I missed the business aspect of the Foods and Nutrition courses. That is why I made the decision to combine my two interests.

The next thing I had to figure out was how this unique module was going to help me find a career I would enjoy after school. The career options that closely relate to my courses are marketing for a retirement home, planning consultant, or a job in human resources. Marketing for a retirement home would include, executing comprehensive marketing campaigns that build and sustain a strong sales revenue in order to help the elderly generation. A planning consultant gives financial information and recommendations to a wide variety of clients.  A job in human resources is a broad career choice that could include a variety of tasks including leading an organization’s programs involving employee relations, compensation, benefits, safety, performance and staffing levels.

As you can see there are many career opportunities out there that apply to your specific interests. I hope my university experience has helped you realize it is important to find what you enjoy in your time at Brescia!
