The Internship Blues

sadaf-header-new

It’s that time of year where students pursuing the dietetic field receive offers of admission. This can understandably be a very stressful and anxious time. Your peers may be constantly speaking of internships and asking you if you’ve received any offers too, which can be quite overwhelming. If you didn’t get an interview, internship, or acceptance to a master’s program, don’t despair. Your life doesn’t end here, and this doesn’t reflect your worth. We need to understand that it’s a very competitive field and that it’s alright if we didn’t get an offer this year. Maybe you can consider taking a year off to gain more experience, or pursue further studies.

If you want to pursue a career in dietetics, you can always apply again. And if you feel maybe this isn’t the path you want to take anymore, that’s completely fine too. Explore your options and see what matches your interests. Not everyone’s career path is linear; frankly, most aren’t. You don’t have to feel like your efforts were wasted. That degree and those experiences you’ve gained don’t go to waste, because they all add value to your personality and build your character and skill set. That education gave you knowledge and those opportunities gave you transferable skills. They’re still on your resume and you can use it for different positions. All those experiences helped you grow and can help you build a future career for yourself. Don’t despair and be positive! This reminds me of the following quote “Self-doubt clouds opportunities, erases possibilities, and limits the ability to move beyond where your mind is stuck. Believe in yourself!”
