Myths of being an international student

Hello everyone! This is Emily!

As an international student, I have already spent three years at Brescia and I count myself fortunate to be here at Brescia. Today I want to share something that my friends and I have learned as international students.

These are some things I have struggled as an international student.

(1) When I have difficult time communicating with others in English, I just want to give up and avoid talking.

Learning takes time, but don’t be afraid to practice! Did you know there is an International & Exchange Student Centre on main Campus? And it offers an English Conversation Program? The program can help you with your English skills and increase your confidence when speaking to others.

(2) I am afraid that I won’t be able to find a job because I didn’t see any advantages for being an international student.

As an international student, you need to realize that your own culture and language can be an asset for companies for diversity when doing international business. Don’t know how to start? (3) I have never been so stressed for my exams before and I’m probably the only one who is stressed ?

Exam period is one of the most stressful time during university, and you will definitely find that a lot of students stresses over exams as well.

How do you prepare well? Make sure you don’t accumulate your readings and finish them before your exam date.  Set a schedule for each course to make sure that you have enough time to finish reading all the materials.  Or book an appointment with your professor to ask for help . I believe these tips can really help you be successful in your exams!

Always remember that you are so unique and there is no way to replicate what you own on yourself, be self confident for who you are and where you are from. Count yourself fortunate to be an international student!
